John Grisham

Somehow I created TWO SlideShows…I HOPE this one is comprehensive

I used to eschew all BESTSELLER fiction, but confess to a weakness for
John Grisham and Robin Cook – and that’s how it started…

APPEAL: Riveting, harrowing, terrifying.  Our appointment system in Canada is not perfect, but definitely preferable to that of electing Supreme Court Judges.   Grisham writes with some authority [He …served in the House of Representatives in Mississippi from January 1984 to September 1990. – Wikipedia]

CANADIAN RANT:
But shame on Harper for ending the direct [$2}per-vote subsidy for political parties, which banned corporate donations. [link].

As I remember it this sprang from Chretien’s last meeting with Bill Clinton, when he learned that Hilary Hilary Clinton’s  Senate  campaign cost more than that of the entire Liberal Party of Canada!

CHAMBER, The
For those of us who’ve grown-up sans capital punishment, this is interesting.. The title is also a movie, which I can recommend only for Gene Hackman’s performance as someone-you-wouldn’t want to know! [Box 17-05]

CAMINO ISLAND: 2017-10 HC $USA 28.95; $CDN 38.00!! minus 25%; $1.00

CONFESSION: This book really stirred me up.

I am even more grateful to be Canadian, living WITHOUT elected judges, WITH  gun control and WITHOUT the death penalty (our last execution was 1962).

I hope our next PM will re-instate the program listed above.

  • FIRM: a page turner;
bought the hardcover for a buck (torn dust-cover) (Box 17-04)
  • SUMMONS: slower-paced than The Firm, with a surprise ending
  • SYCAMORE ROW: I’ve been TRYING to get to the box/es holding A Time To Kill, Grisham’s FIRST novel [which apparently didn’t sell @ all until the next, The Firm], but finally couldn’t wait anymore.  This is a NON-sequel and I absolutely loved it.
STILL want to un-earth A Time To Kill and then read them both together

Finished 2018-Feb-07 2030h; $USA 9.99; CDN  11.99; $1

  • TESTAMENT: a good read; The Appeal was a hard act to follow
  • WALL St. LAWYER: the topic is homelessness – supremely satisfying
  • WHISTLE BLOWER: Enjoyable; another interesting subject, but somehow this one did NOT ;grab; me as much as usual. REMOVED FROM 18-02

That’s All Folks!
