CARDS

this link sent 2011-07-09

  • FACTOID: Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history:
    Clubs – Alexander
    Diamonds – Julius Caesar
    Hearts – Charlemagne
    Spades – King David.
  • HISTORICAL FACTOID: Common entertainment included playing cards. However, there was a tax levied when purchasing playing cards, but only applicable to the “Ace of Spades” To avoid paying the tax, people would purchase 51 cards instead. Yet, since most games require 52 cards, these people were thought to be stupid or dumb because they weren’t “playing with a full deck.”
  • The King of Hearts is the only king  WITHOUT A MOUSTACHE.

Factoids thanks to MjD, JFW, PH and J&B,
    who also supplied the animation.
