Niagara This Week 2010-06-03

Support the establishment of a high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic for Niagara. The cat overpopulation in Niagara has reached epidemic proportions and is not being addressed by the traditional methods of control. There are a number of reasons why this crisis exists, such as the irresponsible and abusive behaviour that is so often perpetrated against vulnerable and defenceless animals. But at the root of the problem is the fact that there is a severe lack of affordable spay/neuter services such as are presently operating successfully in Newmarket and Barrie. Such facilities can perform over 5,000 surgeries per year, which greatly reduces the widespread cases of unwanted litters as well as address issues related to stray and feral populations. A humane and caring society cannot rely solely on the work of already established groups and stakeholders who are overwhelmed by this escalating problem. As a member of a concerned and compassionate community, we ask for your signature of support for our efforts in making a high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic a reality in the Niagara Region.
